Car Show Season

Hi Everyone!!

Car show season is just starting for the car guys in the southwest.  The first big one that we are attending is Cops & Rodders 2017 in Tucson, AZ.  This is the 11th year for this show.  We have been attending from the beginning.  Of course, we always have a Mustang to take to the show.  This is a 1966 Convertible that we had for several years.IMG_0462

My car guy spent over a year working on every little bit of this car, except for the paint. He hired a local company to paint this one and it was a show quality paint job.  The depth of the paint was amazing and shine, shine, shine.  We took this car to Cops & Rodders and we won Top Mustang & First place Mustang for several years with this car.  There is a wall in the garage where all of these awards are hanging.  We are running out of space on this wall.  This car was a pride and joy for my car guy for several years, but that has come to an end.  We sold this car at Barrett Jackson a few years ago. That’s another story for another day.

The night before the show, me and my carguy husband went over to the site of the show and blocked off the spaces for our club member’s cars.

20171103_183622The next morning we met in a nearby parking lot to stage.  We then proceeded to the show together because that is the only way the organizers will guarantee that you can park together.  6:30 am and there were all the cars, just shining and ready to show.

We attended this year with our club, the Southern Arizona Mustang Club.  Always ready to represent, Southern Arizona Mustang Club is the oldest mustang club in the world!!  Yes, I said that.  The first and third cars from the left are ours.  We had a great time at the show and of course, we had to display the flags!!

20171104_124743(0) We had 45 cars and won the Club participation for the 11th year in a row.  Our club members are FANTASTIC.

2017 COPS & RODDERS

It was a great day, and several of our club members won awards too.  Nothing for us this year but that’s ok.  There will be other cars and other car shows.  But the best part of the day is walking around, talking to people and just enjoying the show.

Until next time!!

Car Guys Daughter

Well, here we go.  I am going to try to get something out there every week.  Sunday afternoon or evening.  It’s usually quiet and that’s a good thing.

My life in relation to cars started early.  My dad was a mechanic.  He worked as a mechanic until he retired.  First in a shop, then as a field mechanic.  I was always used to being around cars, trucks, very big trucks and garages.  My first car was a Pontiac Firebird.  (Right here I must apologize to my mustang club family, I didn’t know any better and it wasn’t my choice).  Before I could get my driver’s license, my dad insisted that I learn about a car.  Learning to drive was not enough.  I needed to learn about the engine, where the oil went in, the carburetor, battery, etc.  Just the basics in case I ever got into a bad situation.  One of the last things he insisted that I learn to do was change a tire.

Now, being the very smart, and smarty pants daughter that I am, before I had my lesson, I asked if Mom knew how to change a tire.  I don’t think she appreciated that I included her in my learning process.  Dad walked us both out to my mothers car, the 1973 Ford LTD 2 door monster, and proceeded to teach us how to change the tire.  Now, it wasn’t easy, but I did it.  And so did Mom.  I am sure that my brother was laughing in the background, but I did it.  And so would he just a year or so later.

I must say that I have never needed to change a tire.  At this point in my life, I would more likely call someone to do it for me.  I really don’t like getting dirty or greasy.  But part of me really appreciates that my father took the time to educate his daughter.  He cared and wanted me to be safe.  Now that’s what a car guy is all about.  They may be focused on the car, but they are some of the best people I know.  Willing to help, teach or share their insight with others.  If any of you out there know a car guy like this, ask him to teach you something.  Then stand back and just listen and learn.  One day, you will appreciate all that knowledge.  Then you can call him to help you later!!

ME AND TIRE

Until next time,

Michelle

I am a car guys wife

Hi, my name is Michelle and I am married to a car guy.  Now to many people, that sounds like a joke.  But to some, and you know who you are, its a serious business.  No one comes between a guy and his car, not even the wife.  Well, sometimes the wife comes first but then again, isn’t that the way it should be, or so they say!  This is my family, my husband and son.  I’m the one on the right, the only girl in the family.  That’s if you don’t count the 2 dachshunds we have, Daisy and Shelby.  Some Ford Mustang fans out there might recognize the name for one of our dogs, but I will save that for another time.  This is my first blog, my first attempt to do something that isn’t related to my other job.  I hope that sharing my experience is entertaining and informative, but mostly FUN!
